European Revolution Conference 14-15-16 November 2004 Valletta, Malta Revolution... is the multi-platform software development tool that enables developers to easily and quickly create powerful applications for Mac OS X, classic Mac OS, Windows, Linux, and popular Unix systems... with native look and feel on all platforms. |
| Personal profiles of Rev scripters Klaus Major Not everyone knows where life's path will lead them, in fact very few would guess correctly. Klaus Major studied hard to become a professional musician and reached that goal. "I had lessons in classical guitar for several years, but every other instrument I learned by myself - bass guitar, saxophone, clarinet, background vocals." His first professional work as a musician was with Circus Roncalli. Klaus added "No, I didn't runaway and join the circus...that's way too dramatic." | ![]() |
![]() | Klaus modestly continued, "Actually I never was a 'real' musician but always felt like a 'pro' in whatever respect...my definition of real musician is someone who does nothing else but live for his music and the musical style they have chosen! I never was a virtuoso or extraordinary soloist and definitively no stylist, but I always felt that I had to make my part as good as possible, whatever that part was.
I can have the same fun playing the 'Beer barrel polka' or some crazy 'Zappa' song. So one can say, I was and am living for the job, that's my definition of being a 'pro' in whatever field." It is very clear that Klaus puts effort and focus into
whatever he does.
In 1991 a sour elbow forced Klaus to stop his professinal music career. After surgery and two years of curing Klaus faced the fact that he had to find a new line of work. "It took me a very long while to decide where I should turn." |
|
In 1993, after never even touching a computer, he bought a Mac LC. At the age of 37 Klaus discovered computers and HyperCard.
"The best idea I ever had in my life!" Klaus put the same serious effort into learning HyperCard as he did
learning music. After moving on to SuperCard and then MetaCard, Klaus better understood the potential and power of using a scripting
language. Without the benefit of internet access and the Rev/MC email list, Klaus continued with his own method of self-learning.
"Later I had some communication by fax, yes really, with Mr. Richard Gaskin. He was so kind
to help me out with some SuperCard questions that I could not solve by myself...Thanks again, Richard!"
"Early on I found out that logic is something I am good at and started to make my first applications with SuperCard. I did not have to concentrate on learning how to tell the computer what I want, instead I could fully concentrate on the logic behind the scenes." "I learn by taking files apart, trying to understand what's going on there, not always easy but it is how I learn. Reading manuals and all available lists, after I finally got internet access in 1995, helped fill in the gaps. I have always been a visual and hands on kind of person and so I was able to learn how to handle a lot more applications very soon and fast." Klaus has worked as a freelance tutor, multimedia sevice provider and programmer. He has worked with Adobe Photoshop, MacroMedia Director, Filemaker Pro, Quark X-Press, MetaCard, Adobe InDesign, Adobe GoLive, Adobe Premiere, Maxon Cinema 4D, OracleMediaObjects, and more. Klaus is an expert Rev developer and makes a point of saying "I am a completly self-taught programmer." Learning scripting does not require a university degree in computer science, but it does require some aptitude, discipline, and discovering what learning method works for you. Klaus Major will be presenting at the European Rev Conference, helping you on your learning path. |
